Trying the deeper water off Caloundra

Gday guys, going to head out on Friday and have a crack at this deeper water fishing. My plan is to head east from Caloundra until I reach about 220m and then start looking for likely ground to have a drop on. Will be searching for ground less than 250m as will only be using manual reels. This will be my first real attempt and only if the variable 10 knot forecast holds. If the wind is up much more than this I will hang around the 100m area.
Just after any info if anyone has been fishing this deeper water recently and if it's worth a go at this time of year?

    Cheers
    Lee

I probably would not bother at the moment as the currents are running hard out there

Hi Aussie, thanks for that info, I see the current is about 1.5 knots at the moment, I was thinking it ran slower in winter but obviously not. What is the fastest current that is genuinely fishable and what time old year is it normally?
    Thanks for the advice
    Lee

Just use 10kg leads, you'll be right and still hold bottom

Well worth a trip at the moment mate. There was about 1 to 1.5 knot of current last Sunday and a few fish about too.

Thanks Barry, yeh I am keen to give it a go. I have wanted to try for a long time but getting weather to align with work has made it hard. If the weather holds I will go for a look and take big sinkers. Certainly will stretch the arms

    Cheers

We have one moe joe and it's been fine so far, but you can get a diawa 1000 tanacom from the states for about 600 delivered on eBay cause the dollar is so good at the moment.

    Ok
I have a mate down the Goldie that fishes the Canyons with a 80wide Tiagra in 600mtrs.
He has arms like Arnold Schwarzenegger
    Electric reels are the go.

Do they over heat winding up a load from say 300meters?
Just worried they might cut out and you have to manual wind the rest until it cooled.
    Any problems like that?
Just interested as looking at one as a spare.

No nothing like that yet but also haven't been lucky enough to have 30kg of fish on the other end to yet.
