Yep will be underwhelming. Go for a 30. Most dealerships like to do this to get the easy sale, make a package cheap by underpowering then in a year or 2 get more coin for the inevitable upgrade.
Wondering if anyone has any experience with either of these engines(same cc). I'm looking at a 20hp one on a new 390 Hornet, which is rated to 30hp. At only 327cc, i'm curious it might be a bit under powered, as the boat also has an electric motor and second battery.
thanks,
eric

I have a 20hp Honda on a bare 3.7mt tinny. i agree with Camahawk, 20hp will be bare minimum on a 3.9 hornet.
save up the bit extra and go with a 30hp
They are a great motor as I have one on my tender, but agree with the other comments that it will be underpowered on the hornet, and by quite a long shot. Definitely get the 30hp and save yourself the pain and expense of having to do it later down the track.
Thanks all for the advice. It's a second hand package, but only 6mths old, and it comes with a Lowrance 7" side scan sounder/gps and a 54lb min cota I pilot, batteries, etc, for only 7.5k! cheap, I think, so would have to put up with the small motor for a while!
