Re: cleaning rust off chrome plated steel and stainless steel (how do you do it?)
Coke and aluminium foil could do the trick

Can't offer too much more help on the cleaning as everyone has already given some pretty solid suggestions, but as far as keeping it looking good, I use rainex (little yellow bottle from supercheap, meant for windscreens) squirt onto a rag, wipe rag all over chrome/stainless and let it dry, it will go all cloudy, once it's dry just wipe off with a clean, dry rag, reapply every 3 or 4 trips, when you get home from a trip you will see how easy the salt spray washes off.
