Looks like a great day out, a nice mixed bag.
Greetings,
Bryce and I headed out Cape Moreton way . Threw out the teaser and a skirt - mixed in a few minnows.
Picked up a bonito. Back in and a short time later same lure ( Zerek speed donkey) goes off- Bryce is on to it. Lines cleared . Our first 2017 Spaniard on the deck ( just over 1 metre).
Trolled south with no action. Tried a few drifts with the a SP s , rewarded with a couple of reasonable snaps- 62/67 cm .
Put the earlier bonito out .Nose hook and stinger on wire just around the dorsal . A heavier out fit ( 50 lb braid / 60 leader- trace 100lb). It takes off . A minute of two- back with nothing - long length leader heavily chaffed - guess that was a grey suit.
Water temp was between high 26 s and early 27 C- seemed still a little greenish.
Back via the Tangalooma wrecks for a swim and home via a beacon of two . Bryce casting a slug or two for a few hits /follow ups by schoolies and one kingie- kept one schoolie and back to the ramp.
Cheers,
Lew/ Bryce

Well done. Few nice fish and conditions look good.
Nice work and thanks for the report
Some nice fish there well done.
Nice, but sounds like you worked for it, well deserved. What
jighead is the pink one?

The jig head is one made by myself-use gamakatsu , owner or mustad hooks ( depending pattern/mold), powder coat and bake finish- just in a few basic patterns. Dayoo was kind enough to give me some pointers/lessons on the processes in his day.
Nice spano. Thanks for the report. Also very likely it was a marlin that grabbed the bonito not a shark given the scuffed up leader. Sharks will just bite through where as a marlin bill is extremely rough and does that to leaders.
Dayoo lives on! Through his craft at least. Miss the 'ol bugger...

For sure- that was Barry- Always so ready to pass on the knowledge and give hand.
I Have a mini diy setup myself, a zillion hooks ready to be made but work commitments sucked up a lot of free time so my stocks are at an all time low. Just so long as I can make enough for me at this stage, until I get work commitments back into balance. Isn't it great, I reckon by the time I jump in the car to buy jigheads, drive down, not have what I want anyway, I can pump out enough for a trip in similar time.
