Re: Purchase of EPIRB & Flares
Any boat shop will have then, Sunset Marine just South of Wollongong has good prices, steer away from BCF unless they have some sort of sale, then their price will be the same as boat shops.

Re: Purchase of EPIRB & Flares
Also, wherever you buy them from, check the expiry dates as sometimes they are old stock, and if that happens you get less value for your money!
Note to self: Don't argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience....

Re: Purchase of EPIRB & Flares
good info above and lets' not forget to affix the registration sticker
NSW regs below..
An amendment to the Boating (Safety Equipment) Regulation – NSW, under the Maritime Services Act, required 406 MHz digital beacons to replace any 121.5 MHz analogue beacons from 1 July 2008. Distress beacons are also known as Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBs).
To comply with the requirement, 406 MHz beacons must also be registered with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority and carry a registration sticker.
Here in Queensland, we must carry a certificate of registration / currency
Qld regs:-
Confirmation of beacon registration is issued by AMSA to provide distress beacon owners and authorities with proof of current registration. This is to meet the legal requirements when applicable under state/territory legislation.
A fine may result if a beacon owner cannot prove current beacon registration. The beacon owner must carry proof of registration during a safety equipment inspection.
Check to see the expiry dates on Batteries as some EPIRBS have a longer life battery than others.

Re: Purchase of EPIRB & Flares
Phill, I understand they are not issuing registration stickers any more for EPIRBS. You can print off or get the SMS on your phone though.
NSW regs behind the times, again...... same as having to have a torch on board even in daytime....Note to self: Don't argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience....
