Thread: Which paint to use on an old tinny?

  1. #1

Question Which paint to use on an old tinny?

Getting an old tinny for the kids to use, it's bare aluminium but want to give it some colour.
not going for a pro finish but at the same time don't want it flaking off after a few months.
just going to do a basic camo pattern...
any advice regarding prep work and best cheapest paint to use.
and should I just paint to the water line or do the entire hull?

Best easiest option would be a "wrap". Find someone who will sell you some offcuts of the various colours in you chosen camo cut them by hand and stick them on. Good job for the kids. Paint isn't going to be worth the effort, especially on an old boat. You'll need a etch prime then a paint job.

ive done a fair few tinninies in International toplac. a single pac paint. smoothing agent. it leaves a good looking finish with little skill and effort

also done some in whiteknight and its been. okay
