hmmm, I better take a step back as it sounds like I am talking up a bit.
Will do a test run and record the findings properly.

I think it is cupped from previous owner.
I bought the outboard from Sydney when it had about 140hrs, owner was racing it.

Brendan I know the feeling, water slushing noise disappears and feels like continuous hammering sound over relatively flat water.

Not sure about the WOT rpm, can only speculate it, seen 5400rpm quickly before thinking thats more than enough stress I can handle.
Had the read out of engine hours from last service, looks like previuos owner spent 9 hrs 5-6000rpm range and 1 hr over 6000rpm.
