    Fish Id?

Hey everyone, so I was lure fishing down at gunnamatta park for flathead, and as I was reeling it in, I thought it was some kind of sand or tiger flathead, until closer inspection, I have no clue what it is, and I was too scared to touch it incase it was poisonous haha.

As I was releasing it, it literally darted back into the shallows and buried itself completely under the sand.

    So any help? Thanks (:

    A grinner

There's plenty of posts about them on here

Voracious feeders with mouths way bigger than their stomachs.

Here's a couple I caught last year. One was eating the other. Even when they were both out of the water, the bigger one was still trying to swallow the little one.

Maybe it's a juvenile grinner? All the photos look similar, but it doesn't have those pretty blue lines, maybe it loses them as they get bigger?

It's such a pretty fish, but I still didn't want to touch it incase it was poisonous haha. Bright colours are generally a sign of poison right?

    That's right Crunchy.
I reckon I hold both records for catching these critters.
1/. The smallest one an inch long on a 15/0 circle hook with 80lb braid in 120 meters.
Hook was bigger than the fish

2/. The largest one. Was almost 1meter long & as thick as my forearm off Fraser.
Spewing I never took brag photos
By the way, Tony's good at putting me onto them

You really should use bigger live baits if you want to catch decent fish.

Lol, the bait was 50 times bigger than it.
    They make good Marlin baits

This one's a pink-banded grubfish, not a sergeant baker. Actually not bad on the tooth

I had a large coral trout cough one up about 18 inches long whole so I put em back as livies and have done well on cod and trout
