Help required - Vintage Surf Rod Rebuild - 30mm Brass Reel Seat

    Hello all,

I am attempting my first rod build/rebuild. I have acquired my father in-laws old Dunlop Surf Rods and have stripped them back.

One of the rods has a well worn 30mm brass Reel Seat (130mm length) which has a split in one of the real 'holders' (See picture). I am trying to replace the reel seat with like-for-like rather than buying graphite in order to keep the original look but i am having difficulty sourcing one.

I have spoken to Ross at 'The RodWorks' who was extremely helpful, he suggested putting a post here to see if someone out there might have something similar lying around in there shed.

I want to be able to run with an Alvey 650 A5 reel with the rod.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards, Ben

I can't help with the actual fitting but if this is your first build and you really care about the rod, get yourself a practise rod!

Just buy a cheapie rod, strip it and rebuild it, then strip it and rebuild it again. Heaps of experience for the cost of a cheap rod and a couple of reel seats.

I think I have one on an old broken rod but I am away for a week at the mo. I will have a look when I get home.

I have a vague recollection of seeing one similar at Pats tackle in Gladstone
Long time ago but maybe worth a phone call
