    Origin boats??? Gone????

    What's going on at Origin?

The facebbook page has gone too.

There was a thread about this a while ago, with Col apparently moving on.

Posts 44, 49 & 50, one of the owners, assured the business was still trading.

I don't think Col leaving,as a employee, and gate shut are quite the same. Hopefully its all ok.

ASIC website shows them as having a meeting and agreeing to winding up the business on the 17th Sept and a liquidator appointed.

I do know that col has moved on and is building "Svenson boats" I think he was just an employee so had every right to. Not sure about origin boats , hopefully they keep going on and building there great boats. But if closed hopefully they have done it in a nice manner and finish boats or return deposits.

That is really disappointing. They made a top notch product. Is it fair to say the days of the 150K plus platey market are over for some time?

No, the market is still there, just not as big. There would be other reasons.

Col's no god - don't even know the man. What he is though is just another member of a not too exclusive club - The "Australian Boatbuilders and Marine Indusrty Members who Have Gone Broke for one Reason or Another" Club. There's been plenty of them. Anyone building a boat directly with a small capacity builder needs to make sure the contract details ownership of materials as soon as deposits are paid and as progress payments are made.. If you are investing serious dollars and making progress payments it is possibly worth seeking advice in regard to this matter - either that or make it well known from the outset that if the builder rips you off you are pretty handy with a baseball bat . As an employee though he really has nothing to do with Origin going the same way. Let's just hope he get's the business side of things right this time as from all reports he does build a pretty good tub.
