Turning old sinkers into new ones!

    Hey everyone,

Lead is so dear these days it's worth collecting your own.
Just thought I would show people that are interested how you can turn a 40min dive collecting old sinkers into 15 x 16oz snapper leads.

I was getting frustrated at first because the mould opening would clog up before the mould filled up. I was pre heating the mould but realised the lead also had to be super hot as well. I decided that I would drill a slightly larger opening in the mould and hey presto no more problems!

Spent a couple of hours last week banging out some sinkers from a roll of lead I have.

Have a few more rolls, so hopefully can get a few more done soon.

A roll got me about 100 sinkers ranging from 8oz to 12oz

I just checked the price of the 16oz and just at BCF 2 of them are $10. That's $75 of lead..
I just need a few more moulds. Or borrow someone else's and lend mine out.

Your problem with pouring can be reduced by quickly dipping a candle into the hot lead.....fluxes it and will pour better.

Candle into hot lead?? Never heard of that.. dip it straight into the pot of lead??
...A bad days fishing is always better than a good days working...

Yep.......one quick dip into the lead........use a long candle because it will immediately flare.
