Cause more enviromental damage than the 40 billion boats that already use the broadwater??? What a crock of shit

Can't they do it offshore like everywhere else. Hope a big swell is surging into the seaway on an out going tide. Should make turning around in front of wavebreak interesting.

I think main concerns are that those 40 billion boats will not be able to use that area of the broadwater or enter/exit the seaway during race time and that the 40 billion boats that usually use it are limited by the 40 knot speed zone and some of these race boats are capable of over 100 knots.

Tom Tate is a deadset goose!

i think the reason they did not consult the public is that they know the public would not approve.

On Friday (August 21), the Broadwater will be closed from 1.30-4pm, on Saturday closures will be more extensive from 10am to 12.30pm and 1.30-3.30pm before the final day from 9.30-11.30am and 1.30-3.30pm. A large area of ocean offshore from the Spit and south of the Seaway will also be off limits.
The new 6-knot zone will extend west of the Seaway tower and south along the main eastern channel down to Sea World, from Monday until the end of the event. The area is normally a 40-knot zone and is the main boating route from the Nerang River to the ocean, the northern Broadwater and Moreton Bay.
