    Japanese built rods?

    Hi all,

Just curious if you know any brands of rods that are manufactured in Japan?

After noticing the vast majority of Shimano and Daiwa rods we see in the standard tackle shop being made in China I'm curious what high quality options are out there.

On a similar note, I have been a big fan of the Xzoga Japanese lines recently although am not sure if their rods are made there or not.

    Cheers!

Megabass supposedly, Evergreen, Jackall Poison, FCL Labo, Smith Ltd. There is no real proof of any of that.

China makes ALOT of very good rods with good components at good price point, its just Shimano and Daiwa bringing in the rubbish to expand their profit margin.
Be hard press to find Japanese made rods, and once you find them, the guides set up probably isn't suited to our fishing style.

    Hey Ignition,
Try looking at some of the GT tackle shops and sites such as FishHead. From there you can find info on companies such as Carpenter who do alot of international expeditions testing their gear. And the GT guys really know their gear. The Japanese are and have been at the forefront of the sport and the high end gear required to really tackle the monster fish. There is a forum dedicated to the sport also which I wont name. On there you can find in depth reports from those types of gear testing expeditions. They are all fisherman just like you and I so you will find they also produce high end rods for Fly, Baitcasting etc. Also check out a youtube clip Jigging Master ThreeKings, im sure they are Japanese made, happy to be proven wrong.

Plenty of "HIGH QUALITY" Aussie builders available.

Especially local custom rod builders who, in my opinion do a better job that suits our conditions.

If your chasing off the shelf stuff, what about the live fibre venom range or Gary Howard range.

Not in any way knocking overseas gear, but would love to see our Aussie builders get the recognition and support they need.

    Cheers,

    Tony.

Yamaga Blanks is another high end Japanese made brand - they own and make the Ripple Fisher brand also, which is well known in GT popping circles.
I've seen them occasionally in specialist stores like Fishhead, but there are some online retailers that deliver to Australia. Contact me if interested.
Their website is in Japanese, but the graphics and images + google translate will get the message across; also a pdf catalogue download in english available at their website.

I bought three Yamaga Blanks rods 6yrs back and they have been an absolute delight to fish with.
The Ballistick 85/12 for PE1, a BlueSniper 70/3 for PE3 general boating work (now discontinued), and a BlueSniper 95M for PE2 landbased lure casting.

    Cheers
