product to renovate rods - suggestions please

I asked this question ages ago and lost the name of the product.

Basically the surface (non bound areas) of a couple of my fav rods have lost their original surfacing and are begining to worry me, I was told to apply a product which is a two part system that is used as a clear finish on cars...I think. If that is the case I need to know how to apply this stuff and how many coats would be needed, also the ratio.
Now in case I am wrong, which is almost never the case as the female is ALWAYS RIGHT!!!, is there another product I can purchase to achieve the desired result.
Can at some point post pics of rod in question if that helps.

    cheers roz

You could try a urethane finish such as U40 Permagloss.

should have posted this message ages ago!!!
The Permagloss made this rod look brand new, must add good idea to wear a mask when using this urethane & also do it outside.

Thankx Daintreeboy, will eventually do all my well worked rods plus post before & afters.

    Cheers Roz
