Queensland fishers are encouraged to have their say on how state fisheries should be managed by making submissions to the independent review currently underway.

Fishing is both a vital primary industry and a favourite activity for many Queenslanders and visitors. The independent review is all about creating a better system to manage one of our most important natural resources – our fisheries.

Everyone with an interest in Queensland’s fisheries, be that recreational, commercial, indigenous, environmental or tourist-based, is encouraged to provide feedback. Submissions must address the review terms of reference and will be accepted up until 30 October 2014 via email to: qldfisheriesreview@mragap.com.au.

MRAG Asia Pacific, the consultants leading the review, have held a number of public consultation meetings across Queensland. They are pleased with the information coming forward and the robust nature of the debate. There appears to be strong recognition from all sectors about the need to maintain healthy fish stocks while ensuring recreational fishing opportunities. All sectors are looking for a strong future with a secure operating environment and healthy fish stocks.

Final recommendations will be presented by the independent review team to the Queensland Government at the end of the year.
