Fluid for Wet Box for transducers

Just made a wet box for my shoot through hull transducer and just wanting to know what fluid to fill it with. I bought some glycerin to use but before I do just would like to hear from people who already have this set and what fluid works best. TIA.

Might be worth a look at your transducer. I have seen a few over the years that have been destroyed by vegetable oil. Not sure whether olive oil will do the same damage or not. Seems to affect the transducer face on the "through hull" style transducers. The face material swells up and eventually cracks.

Ultimately it really doesn't matter what fluid is used provided it doesn't physically damage the transducer, housing or hull. Glycol (engine coolant) is typically recommended nowadays but that recommendation is based out of the US market that has areas that get to below freezing point. Unless you are in cold areas, water is fine - not to mention easy to get and cheap.

They say to use tap because it still contains all the chemicals.

Thanks everyone for your replies, I've decided to run with glycol (antifreeze), will be giving it a test run tomorrow to see how it goes
