Thread: Build Thread - Moda Custom Boats 7800 Bridge Deck

Re: Build Thread - Moda Custom Boats 7800 Bridge Deck

I have been getting a few messages asking how much my boat would cost from Moda.

I have previously written about the fact that this is a really tough question in particular for this boat as there really isn't anything like it available in the market place today in either plate or glass.

I looked really hard before talking with Moda and getting confidence in their approach, skill and commitment to producing a world class product.

I flew to Gladstone to test the hull they finished before mine "black diamond" a 7.4 metre which you can see on their website - there are lots of photos - Black Diamond was beautifully finished and it is up to any Australian boat I have ever seen and it was one of the key reasons I chose Moda.

On that basis, comparing the product Moda turn out to a world class product such as a white pointer, Dickey Boats etc from NZ (the prices of which are right up there!) then I think Moda are actually surprisingly competitively priced - a boat like this will never be "cheap" but if you have a dream boat I think it would be worth talking to Shane at Moda.

Given that no two plate custom boats of this size will have the same spec I don't think there is any value in quoting a price for mine (it is NOT for sale) - Moda will charge you the same price as everyone else to get a quote (nothing!) - my recommendation would be to talk to them if you are thinking about a plate build - you might be pleasantly surprised.

    Cheers,

    Brad.

Re: Build Thread - Moda Custom Boats 7800 Bridge Deck

I'd like to add a little on the whole price thing.
I looked at what was on the market and prices prior to having my 8m boat built.
Boats like the bar crusher or stabicrafts in the 7.2m range with single 250hp Yamaha and a very basic fitout along with extremely
basic electronics were retailing from $145-170 thousand dollars.
Then there is the cruise craft 685 Explorers with again basic fitouts for around the $120000-$140000.
So my believe is that if we are spending around $180-$200,000 for these custom built, alloy trailered and jam packed with the top of the range electronics boats we are well in front.
It certainly has added up very quickly and a lot more then first planned expense wise for me,but in saying that I haven't held back on what is the build of a life time for myself and my wife.
Here is a couple of things to look at,$60-70,000 for hot works,$10-14,000 for paint,$40-$45,000 for engines,$20-$27,000 for electronics,$3-$4000 for glass,$3500-$5000 for trim, then theres all the little bits, solar, batterys, hatches, and the list goes on.,
So this would give some indication of what of freaks of fisherman spend on what for me is a life long dream.
She looks the goods to Bananas.

    Great performance figures Brad.

Mick, you better add another 15-18K for an alloy trailer into the sum.

Is this a sneaky way of telling us SWMBO doesn't know how much you have spent, and you are not letting her find out here?

Seriously though, thanks for sharing the build with us, it is as close to owning one as I will get and I have enjoyed it emmensly

Looks great and hope you enjoy her. Now the serious question - since you have just taken delivery are you to blame for this cyclone that is on the way?

Well the Boat is on the water and exceeds all expectations.

The photos tell the story pretty well but the hull works perfectly and the 300 is a great match.

Did a few trips to Tangas on the weekend shaking down the systems and testing things out.

Quality is spot on and big thanks to Shane and the team at Moda.

    It's a dream come true.

Now to get out there and hassle some billfish!10447744_813927968682142_7317015356445252961_n[1].jpg10448763_814419311966341_4037572657406674000_n[1].jpg11026017_814421385299467_7405544118646105816_n[1].jpg10410492_813927898682149_5317082720499780444_n[2].jpg11025815_814421558632783_8774937754653386031_n[1].jpg17785_814421325299473_6473056315684868974_n[1].jpg10672428_814419218633017_1997644732930495000_n[1].jpg

It has already been said, but, very nice. I especially like the first photo that shows the photographer taking the photo. Hope you get out and blood it soon.
