Fish ID Please - Brisbane River

Hi there,

A guy from work caught this in the river the other night on a prawn - cut the head off and to me it looks very much like a jewie but I couldn't help him with the ID on it - any ideas?

I think it's a Little Jewfish, also called River Perch.

it is a river perch, different to a jew. they grow nowhere near as big. the differences become more obvious when you have the 2 side by side.

Thanks all. Mouth looks very different and not as silver by the photo. I didn't gauge size either as i wasnt there and thats all im going off. Much appreciated

If you google river perch or puttynose perch you will see them.
They are very common and I think there may be 2 species but both very similar looking.
Def not a Jew.
