Suzuki 150hp questions?..

Hi all,
posting this on behalf of my mate (just relaxin) who is getting a performance plate boat built by Sam.
looking at putting a 150 Suzuki 4 stroke on the back of 6.4m boat.
just looking for the following information if you don't mind sharing.

1. Type of boat you have.
2. approx weight of your boat
3. fuel usage through different circumstances.
4. prop size and pitch
5. are you using trim tabs
6. any other comments you think are relevant

Really only want info on the Suzuki please.

Go for a 175... Much better motor for the same weight and not a lot of extra money.

At that size id def go the 175 or even a 200. i have a 6mt platey with a suzi 175 and its a great match.

Mate the prop is a stainless suzuki prop 3x15x21. I haven't got any specs on fuel, haven't really worried about it, i had an old 2 stroke carby 175 before it and the difference is massive, id say about a 1/3 to 1/2 better on fuel depending on what your doing.

If it's help a new yammy 200 is only 6kg more than the 150, unsure about Suzuki

Hi Oz,

We've got a 19ft Lightning Centre Cab platey, it's well built, probably weighs around 1.4t and it carries 185L of fuel.

We put a Suzuki 175 on it in 2009 and it's a great match for the boat, typically runs between 1.5-1.8 nm/L depending on weather, tides etc. according to the Navman fuel flow information. It's a beautiful engine.

We had a Mercury Black Max 175 on it before that was a bit of a beast, but used a lot of fuel and was seriously unreliable, but the power was good to have.

We have trim tabs, and I think they are worth their weight in gold.

I tend to approach boat engines with the philosophy that it's better to have the power there and not use it, than to not have it and need it.
