Simrad CX44 with echo - can't read the depth???

Hi Everyone,

I've had my boat (Haines Hunter 580SF) for a couple of weeks now, it's fitted with a Simrad CX44 10" chartplotter/sounder. Everything works ok, except there doesn't seem to be a correct depth figure on the echo page.

After reading the instructions, I have the scale set at 300 as this is where the sea bottom shows in the bottom 1/3 of the screen - but this is just out of Scarborough harbour where it must only be 5-6 metres deep??

Does anyone have any experience with these units?

Looks as though I have an issue with the height of the transponder unit, anything above idle is putting heaps of noise on the screen and making the depth appear all over the place... Will keep playing around until I can get some reasonable readings from the unit.
