    G'day Wayne
The 2 Azure Blue 6500's cost $420 for the full monty, the Black 6500 Big Game a special build price for me of $350. Looked after me on that one. Generally around $200 will see you with a fully customised reel. Not a cheap hobby I know but you can't take it with you...... Jim

Your reels look fantastic! Duncan at D and H Reel Repairs does my reel services and minor upgrades on drag etc. All my baitcasters r ABU 6500s as they are great reels. I still use my original ABU 6500 that I purchased in 1987 from the Halifax Service Station and Tackle Shop. I still have the box it came in as per the picture and is set on a rod I build from an old butterworth boat rod.

By having the original box that it came in has added considerably to its value for a collector. Jim

The Abu's are by far my favourite reels. Looking at importing a 10000 Big Game soon. I recently got a 7000i C3 CT mag High Speed, but something just not right with it. Going to strip it down and investigate the bearing's
for a possible failure. Just doesn't free spool smoothly. Once I track the cause It will get the treatment as well.

Feel free to post up pictures of your Abu's guys and girls. Jim
Jim, I have an early '70's 10,000C and an Abu 12 (9000) without the casting blocks and two speeds. Both of these would be available for sale. Also have a spare A urora Elite I would part with.

This one is fairly rare. A 6500C Snakehead on the matching Smith ltd KOZ rod.

And with a couple of A urora Elites.

Re: Abu Garcia Bling to the Max

Gee you guys have me thinking. I still have the first reel I bought myself as a 14YO back in 1974. Its an ABU 5000c. It caught literally thousands of fish over its first 25 years or so. I wore out two handles on it and am now on a third. I wonder if it could be brought back to life. It would be pretty cool fishing with a 40 year old reel

By the way the reel has never had any corrosion issues unlike more recent offerings from Mr Shimano and others

Horse, I would give Duncan a call. I handed over my grandfathers vintage SureCatch overhead to him a couple of years ago and he got it going well and polished it up. He did such a good job it was a waste to leave 'ín the pool room' and I sold it on ebay just before christmas.

photo 1.JPGJust an update to the collection.
Duncan has sourced some one piece alloy frames and I couldn't help myself. Should arrive in the next week or so, when landed the 5000B will go in for her final treatment. This reel is going on 25 years and is one of my favourites. Jim.
