Thanks Mick, thought I was on the right track

I will take this little item :- http://www.slime.com/shop/tire-sealant/ similar to the old foam filler , but much more " tyre fitter " friendly. I don't think we are going via the Telegraph track anyway, but may utilise the coast road from just north of Cooktown to Bathurst Bay , then turn west to link with the Development rd.

and yes Jim....... you are 100% correct and have great ....vision

I agree that you don't need all the fancy stuff. Its not remote - bloody traffic everywhere. I put all-terrains and a snorkel on the Prado and everything else was standard. Went up the OTL and back down the development road. Just be careful on the water crossings and don't charge the corrugations and you will be sweet.

Yep, I will be getting a 2inch lift and snorkel fitted in January, sometime. I have a new set of A/T's to go on just before the trip.

You haven't been to the cape if you haven't taken the telegraph, Phil. Don't be a wimp.

    You taking a boat??

I seriously don't even want to go to the Cape itself.......... I don't consider getting a photo of me standing next to a metal sign and saying " been there, done that " important would rather trek / fish the Bathurst Bay / Cape Melville to Cape Bedford / Cape Flattery, via the Starke Track. Then pop over to Weipa and up to Marpoon. But I may not have that option.

Looks like a good plan mate. The telegraph is just a wonderful experience. Are you taking a boat? Just curious.

Nuther thing - if you are interested in a charter in any of those places - book ahead. I didn't at Wiepa and they were booked out for a week.

There's a month in that lot.

What NOT to pack on the first trip is a solid itinerary that knocks off the tourist spots and the fishing spots. The cape is too big. You really enjoy the place just picking off a couple of destinations per trip and working them out. Managing a group's expectations before leaving home is the hard bit.

I have no time limitations........ hate tourists ( in the true sense of the word ).... hate queues..... and don't do tourist destinations.. ( too many tourists )..............

    What NOT to take?

    Snorkle
    camp oven
    too much fishing gear
    chainsaw
carrying too much water, food & fuel
    Gas bottle
Keep it simple & travel as light as possible
If you only going to use once or twice don't bother

It will be hard to stay away from the tourists

I would be getting a snorkel anyway. They do make a difference to the vehicles performance.

The rest you mentioned...... yep,,, agreed.thanks

This thread is a bit late for me... I am moving to Coen in 2 weeks... And I have taken everything, hahaha.

As others suggested, Mapoon is a sensational spot. Spent 6 weeks there in 09 & it was fantastic.

A snorkel is essential..... It would be the last thing I didnt take.....If not for the water it helps with clean air into the engine with all the dust.....
