I think you could use any sort of meat for mud crabs including roadkill. Years ago I used beef neck bones, held to the pot with wire. Last Monday I had chicken frames and mullet in the pots and I caught muddies and sandies. I think they prefer fish but they would eat anything that came their way. bazza

For the middies I would probly try redbait..............

For everything else chicken frames tend to work well and are cheap..

Buy some chicken frames and throw some tuna oil into the plastic bag then freeze them, the oil will penetrate the chicken frames more.

I used horse meat as a kid for muddies, worked ok but nothing outstanding.

has anyone used oysters or mussels for muddies, apparently they are a very large portion of their diet.

Isn't the idea to turn cheaper bait into higher valued food? Pots will soon be getting raided for the oysters not the crabs

I've always used mullet (whole or barrel or frames) and if there not going to be soaked long then I sometimes splash a bit of tuna oil on them before dropping the pots in.

sand crabs I'd use whiting frames etc as for muddies I'd use mullet fresher the better, pig head, and definite chicken frames
