Give the gift of fishing!

Give the fisher in your life a gift they will treasure this Christmas.

Fisheries Queensland manager Tony Ham said fishers of all ages and skill levels would enjoy receiving a permit that would allow them to fish at any of the state’s 32 stocked impoundments year-round.

“Many of the Stocked Impoundment Permit Scheme (SIPS) dams throughout the state are full and ready to be fished,” he said.

“SIPS dams are well known as some of the best places to fish for iconic freshwater species such as barramundi, golden perch, silver perch, Australian bass, Mary River cod, Murray River cod and saratoga.

Mr Ham said purchasing a stocked impoundment permit for a Christmas present was a simple process, and a great gift idea that would last the whole year.

"It’s easy to purchase a permit—you can order online, purchase over the counter at a number of outlets throughout Queensland, or call 13 25 23 to order one over the phone,” he said.

"Permits cost just $38.60 for one year and discounts are available for concession card holders."

Mr Ham said fishing at a SIPS dam was a sustainable fishing option.

“Fishing at a SIPS dam means you will be helping to sustain native fish stocks, with funds from permits going back into restocking the dams,” he said.

“Most SIPS dams offer great facilities including camping, amenities and supplies, which make them a great option for family and friends to get out on the water over the holidays.

"Enjoy the dam fishing experience this holiday season, and don’t forget to keep your permit on you at all times."
