    Seaway Fishing in August

Hi Everyone, I fish the gold coast seaway alot and I though I'd share some catches I've been getting lately. August had some challenging fishing conditions( clear water, snot weed and phosphorescence at night ) but despite those I still managed to put some good fish in the boat.

Early August saw some some nice bigeyes in the seaway on vibs, along with some small GT's and Mack tuna but the best fish was this 90cm Kingfish caught by my dad on a Chrome skitter pop 9, he's been trying to land one for a while so he was happy.

Then I dabbled with Livebaiting for a couple of trips just for something different and over a couple of trips managed some nice jewies including a nice stumpy tailed fish of 85cm and a 90cm, heaps of just legals and alot of tailor.

Went back to the lures and did a bit of trolling, that worked very well at times with some excellent sessions on good size GT's average size was around 60cm with the odd one over the 70cm mark though it did cost me a few lures from bustoffs around the rocks.

As I was finishing up a trolling session and right on dark I got hit by a large fish which turned out to be a 96cm Barracuda which is a rare but welcome catch for the seaway.

Topped off the month with a couple of nice fish from the broadwater on a new surface lure including a 64cm Tailor and a 65cm GT

Now that we are in to september, hopefully we will see alot more bait coming into the seaway and more surface action. There is not much bait around at the moment and what there is, is tiny.

Some nice pics there mate, Ive seen your facebook page too.

Did the barracuda play up when you boated him? Ive heard they can go off a bit. I caught a 150cm model one night (Hervey Bay), and decided to cut the line at the side of the boat, as he was looking very aggressive. Ive seen photos of some nasty injuries from boating them.

    cheers
    Andrew

    Re: Seaway Fishing in August

Andrew, no he was quite sedate but he did kick up a fuss boatside, hardest damn thing to net I've ever caught. Unlike other metre long fish they don't bend when you stick them in a net, so trying to fit him in a environet was very difficult.
