Difference between Garmin 4,5,6 and 7 series chartplotters.

Hoping for some information. I'm trying to work out the dash on my project boat. I going to fit a Garmin chartplotter. and eventually chirp and radar. Can someone explain the difference between the 4, 5 6 and 7 series. I have a 23ft sharkcat and plan on fishing deep.

The boat came with a 1kw Northstar 6000i with I think a 1 kw TM260, and maps for the east coast neither has ever been fitted to the boat. are they any good, good for a backup, good for just mapping ?????

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I think,

The 4 series is not a touchscreen, The 5 series is a touchscreen,

And i think without looking further 6 series is not a touchscreen and 7 series is a touchscreen,

    4000 series .. single processor ... buttons
5000 series ... single processor... touch
    6000 series ... dual processor....buttons
    7000 series... dual processor... touch
8000 series.... supercharged crazy powerful new tech
8500 series.... same as above but uses black box and monitors instead of built in.

    Hello
Im running 12inch Northstar with TM260 1kw transducer in a 28' sharkcat. Transducer mounted in front of fuel tanks a mid way along hull.
The Northstar unit with 1kw trannie will give you very good readings
