    Overhead reel on spinning rod

    Hi All

Have picked my young fella up a charter special as his 1st overhead reel. The rod that came with it is too long for him. Rather than spend money on a another rod (yes I am feeling fine) can I put it on the small Jarvis walker "stubby" spinning rod that he likes to use or will this cause the rod to snap under load ?

    Cheers

Re: Overhead reel on spinning rod

I'm pretty sure the main difference is that overhead rods have more runner (closer together) than the spinner, so that the line doesn't touch the rod when she's bent over.

    But I may be corrected.

    Thanks

Also, any decent rod will be built to suit the blanks backbone, the backbone, when the rod is loaded, will want to be facing upwards, so a spin rod will have the backbone opposite the reel, while overheads will be built with the backbone same side as the reel.

    Thanks chaps

Put the reel on this arvo when I got home and it felt weird, will try and find the shortest rod I can for an overhead reel.
