    Re: Trolling Moreton bay

I must be trolling a bit slower than you Rosco as I haven't had one of the cheapies blow out. Then again my Yamashita sticks like glue as well

    Hi everyone,

Just curious, does anyone use this style of diving board / paravane ???

If so, any advice or experience you care to share ??? (good or bad)

    Cheers, Steve

OK that's around the speed I work. Probably 5knts would pull it up for me. I normally don't turn hard. Maybe that's why my oldies stick in on the turns

Hi Rosco , Thanks for all that very good info.
Do you run the P60 or P70 Yamashita boards or 1 of each?
I've attached a photo of my old board that a pro mackerel fisherman gave me many years ago.

    Beast (and interested others),

That's the style of board they sell at Macca Lures in Bundaberg, though they don't show a pic on the site.

FYI it's http://www.makkalures.com.au/ and no, I don't have any connection to the company.

They also sell spoon lures etc.

    Cheers, Steve

    Re: Trolling Moreton bay

I have a heap of Macca Spoons and paravanes coming, should be here tomorrow or Friday hopefully.
There spoons are great quality, very solid hooks and much heavier than standard spoons.
They have a new wobbler spoon in production now and I am hoping to get the first lot sent to me next week.

Interesting thread. Never used paravanes before so just wondering how deep are they supposed to swim? I would imagine that thing cause a fair amount of drag, wouldn't a lump of lead do the same job with less hassles?

    Re: Trolling Moreton bay

Hi Gimme5 - a good paravane gets a shimmy /wobble up in the water that gives a spoon extra action.(imo). Personally I'm a Down riggers fan .- gives you good depth control to put the baits/lures accurately in their face.- actually just above their faces is even better.

    Re: Trolling Moreton bay

So many interested people with trolling for mackerel. We should organise a mackerel bash this summer, if enough people are interested and the weather play then I will organise it with a BBQ and we can use my place as a base. I'm on acreage, with plenty of room for boats and the ramp is 100m down the road with access to northern bay via passage. Just an idea, have a think and let me know.
Humility is not a weather condition.
