Thread: My new truck..... Collie again.

    My new truck..... Collie again.

I haven't put my John Hancock on the paperwork as yet. Awaiting a reply from last dealership with a “ deal “.

Not trying to screw the price down, but want the best deal for me and remaining part of the deal is the Finance.

We all like a good deal or like to think we got a bargain.

The deal consists of and all are important as each other.

    1. Price............................................. . never pay RRP.

    2. Vehicle ascetics.............................. has to look good
    1. Vehicle drive train............................ proven
    2. Vehicle standard fittings................ the little things that count like 2 ciggie lighter sockets
    3. Vehicle servicing and spare parts...... hence European cars are off my list
    4. Finance......................................... must fall within my affordable parameters
    5. Vehicle Specs............................... tow and payload.

There are a few minor matters like, the sales staff that do come into it.

    So my needs were:-

Space Cab chassis with 3 ton tow minimum........
Above the 120kw and 400nm torque.................
    Driveaway under 40K
    Diesel, manual 4 cylinder ( rego )
standard features included.... cruise control, twin ciggie sockets, drink holders, centre arm rest, elec mirrors and windows, remote central locking, LSD.

I didn't have to look far as the 2013 Colorado fitted snuggley into the mould. Even the crappy suspension has been upgraded from the previous model.

Finally went and sat in one the other day. Yep, this'll do.

5 drink holders with 2 in front of air-con vents... ( think Toyota started this ). I can whack in a head unit ( GPS, reversing camera, radio, CD player and Bluetooth for Mobile ) in the dash, so that only leaves the issue of finding a place for the UHF, which I think I will have to go to a unit with controls on mike and unit hidden under dash.

Bullbar, spotties, alloy tray with Checkerplate canopy fitted, some under tray tool boxes, ladder racks, window tint, better tyres and wheels and a few other goodies. I should get it all done for around 45K.

I actually enjoy the searching and comparing of options and vehicles. You learn a lot. It always feels good to be in the drivers seat ( pun intended ) when shopping for a new car.

Pic below is the space cab with tub.

Looks really nice Phil. Good luck with your new vehicle and many good trips away in it too.
    Cheers, Doug.
Love to use Preditek or Kingfisher lures or Viva Lures when I am out fishing.

Phill. What brand canopy? And how
Much do you expect it to cost? I ask as I have been looking at them lately so am curious. I've been checking out MW toolbox ones
    Mostly.

Pull large boats is what is intended, but by-catch is always appreciated

Yes. The dickie seats in the back will carry an average adult or two for short distances, but they are not comfortable. I am in the truck 99% of the tiume by myself anyway.

Re: My new truck..... Collie again.

Well Bill, it should go better than my current Collie with 20 more KW and more torque and a 3.5 tow capacity.

There is a trick to making them go better..... drop tyre/ wheel size to 15". This puts the speedometer out, but that can be compensated with reading speed from GPS. Off the line it goes really well and also through the gears. I currently have 15" wheels on ( 225 x 75 x 15 ) and rarely use first gear to take off. It seems to add torque, if you know what I mean. Even on the highway, it doesn't bother me as the 5th gear is tall.
