    Palm Beach Reef Report 26/12/12

Headed out early this morning to Palmy for our first spottie trip of the season. Expected to get a little wet due to the rain but thought the fishing gods might be kind to us. Spent the best part of the morning there along with 12 odd other boats for a few under sized reefies and zero spotties. Water temp sitting on 25 degrees and didn't see any other boats or spearos land a thing! Found quiet a bit of bait around the area but nothing harassing it. Probably not the report that you all want to hear!!!

On the up side we did find some yellowfin tuna feeding on small bait schools off the Mermaid beach area. They didn't hang around too long busting up and then going back down but eventually managed to get a few casts in at a school and scored a couple on slugs, dropping another. They put up a good account for themselves on light gear. Just look for the birds.

Apart from the rain (and lack of spotties) conditions were great. Hope you all have better luck. Happy hunting.

Too true about the lack of spotties, not what we want to hear, where are they? I was planning on a spottie trip down that way tomorrow. May wait till Sat see if the southerly coming will stir them up a bit.
