    Okuma makaira reels

Has anybody used the Makaira 8-11 or 10-11? Supposed to pull 24 & 28 pounds of drag, not cheap but look good. Now made in Taiwan with Japanese bearings & greased carbon fibre drags, 2 speed with all the goodies. Any feedback from actual USERS.

Alan Tani rates these reels very highly and he is the man when it comes to conventional reels. `

    One word - beautiful!

I have a Mak 10, and I have used it for live baiting and trolling with 20lb line. I am generally not a game fisher, but has handled dollies and mackies with ease. Anti reverse and drag have performed as I would expect. Most people thought I was crazy because I didn't get a Penn Inter, or a Tiagra, but all have been impressed once they actually try it.

Only problem I see is that they are pricy for something that needs to overcome Okuma's mid level reputation.

    Cheers,
    Ben

I have a 30 running 24kg mono on the troll, very nice reel. Didn't pay for it though, won it in a comp.
