Thread: What's up with the beacons in Moreton Bay?

What's up with the beacons in Moreton Bay?

Over the last week the weather beacons at Peel (Banana Bank) and Inner Beacon have gone 'off-line' at the BOM site. These are the two most important wind indicators in the bay...

They have been stuttering for awhile but are now completely gone...

Does anyone know if BOM is having some technical issues? Or when the off-line beacons will come back?

    Cheers

    Pete

I used to repair/maintain some offshore weather stations. Problem is, you cant do anything about the failures until you get decent weather. For me, it was 20odd years ago now, so I imaging the OHS rules are even tighter now. Once you get out there, chances are you will have to bring the gear back for repair/replacement, so that even further compounds the delays.

Both beacons are still failing regularly. I have emailed BOM but no response as yet.

As I type both Peel and Inner beacons are out of action since 12.30am and have been going 'offline' most nights/early mornings.

    Can't blame weather this week...
