Very simple really, just buy a 3 way like a Chestcold. In excess of 3 weeks on a 9kg gas bottle, not very efficient on 12 volt but plug in to 240 v for a couple of days before leaning and fill with frozen and cold food.
Food will stay frozen for over 4 hours even in summer without the unit running while traveling.
I am on my second one only because I lost the first one to flooding in 2008.

I run a 120W solar and carry a 1kva gennie on long trips. I can also run off a dual battery in the Landy. Its suprising how much power these units chew through especially when set to freeze in warm conditions. I use a semi deep cycle style battery that can still take a quick charge without cooking it.
At a pinch a pair of jumper leads running off your main vehicle battery can pump in a solid shot if your fridge battery is getting low.
