    Well that's an achievement!

Have been making a list of the things I'd really like to achieve in my personal fishing journey. It's not complete. I need suggestions and education. I'm sure there are things more experienced anglers hold as great personal achievements which i have never even imagined as a goal and I'd like to know about them.

The important thing for my list is that it's achievable (for me), and measurable. I want my list of things to be challengeing and rewarding and I want to look back when I'm finished (whenever that may be) and feel happy about doing it.

I need my list to be achieveable without requiring equipment or expenses outside my means.

Assuming that a bloke has a tinny of their own, reasonable fishing gear and an average wage/pension and the usual family committments, what would you add/detract from my list?

Here is my list so far.

How about adding species to catch on plastics, on hard body lures, on fly and on home made baits??

    Hey Frawlz,

lure selection sounds good mate, got reccomendations for target species for each sort?

ED: I probably got a bunch of it ticked off in the past but I'll have to do them and document them. (pics or it didn't...)

It all looks very achievable, but in my opinion you might require a longer time frame.
That is a lot of rivers and dams to get around and catch and bag out in, in 10 years.
Wish you all the best and have fun.

Catch a fish before the pro netters bag em all... now that's an achievement!

I don't think you really need to "bag out" on any one species to consider that you have done a good job or that you are a complete/competent fisherman............Possibly just to have caught one of whatever you targeted would be a realistic achievement given a certain circumstance.

When we fish for Barra up here at certain times of the year we can and have frequently caught over 150 fish for the day........it's not remarkable it's more than do able and will be done again........Other times of the year like now in the dry when the weather is cold it is considered to even raise fish on some days as a success.......

All i'm saying is you don't need to gauge your success on the amount of fish caught but rather the conditions and technique you used.......wether it be fly.plastic.bait or handline or even noodling.

    Cheers Dan
Confidence.......the feeling you get before you fully understand the situation.

    Re: Well that's an achievement!

the first one should be "draw up a fishing bucket list".
I like the lures, plastics etc comment, that makes sense.
Also, perhaps a one metre cod is much more rare than a 1m barra, I'd perhaps be going with catch a murray cod in the murray darling system. That's an achievement right there. And will be getting harder every year.
Maybe also catch a yellowbelly and cook him in alfoil/coals in a winter's night.
There are also plenty of Dudd things I could suggest, like forget to put the bungs in, forget to put the rods in, forget to put the cast net in, forget to bring the beer (this has never happened but it might), forget to keep your hands away from sharp knives/hooks/glass. I don't reckon you've fished until you've done a few of those things.

You're right, I'm not a fan of wastefull fishing. I do like to eat fish though and I've tried to limit the 'bag out' things to species that would suffer little from my takeing a bag limit. For example, 10 yellowbellies is a regular take in some of my fishing spots and is a gratefully received protein addition to my family's diet. I wouldn't take more than a couple of silvers or tandans though, there's not so many of them in the wild. A Bag of bass is two so that's a low impact sort of achievement. My thing is i only take what i can reasonably foresee myself and my family eating in the next month from species which are fairly stable where I'm taking them.

    Hi
How about a Murray cray fish while you hunt for that big cod. A few redfin while you're about it and a few yabbies as well.

    good luck with it

Don't forget Coral Trout, mate the best eating I reckon. And a Bluefin Tuna/ Longtail is an amazing fish to catch as the speed they pull line off is fantastic.
