I've just got my first sounder, a Humminbird 596c HD, and was after some advice on where/how to install the screen.

These are some of my options I've been thinking about:
  1. Use the mount that came with the sounder and mount it to the right of the steering wheel. The bracket would be fully bent back and I wouldn't be able to twist the sounder left and right. It may occasionally get in the way of my hand on the steering wheel. Changing the sounder would require new holes.
  2. Use a RAM mount and either mount it on the right near the steering wheel or to the left in the gauges somewhere. Doesn't need new holes if I change sounder. Can twist the sounder left and right. How do the RAM ball bases go mounted on a fairly vertical surface?
  3. I don't want to flush mount it as changing the sounder would need the dash to be fixed.
I'm thinking option 2, can anyone see any probs with this? and would you mount it on the left or right?
