What do I fit bussbars to in a tinnie

I have a 4.3m tinnie and I want to install a VHF radio and fishfinder in a new centre console.

    1. I was wondering what to fix my +ve and -ve bussbars to in my tinnie.

Do I use a piece of wood or a waterproof box?

    2. Fuse blocks / or switch panel.

Can I use a basic fuse block from somewhere like autopro? Or should I just use the two bussbars and a switch panel with fuses?

    3. Is a 20/30A fuse on the +ve wire near the battery essential?

    Cheers

Absolutely essential and the maximum size of the fuse is governed by the size of the cable installed. (You can go smaller though)

Mate ,I always think of it like a cars wirng , main fuse/fusible link at battery feeding a switch panel.
The switch panels now have all separate fused circuits and a distribution stud for the earths , always think ahead and allow for the chance you might fit a live bait tank, lighting etc in the future because once you have the the basics in adding stuff is easy.
If you can use marine grade wirng/fuse panel nothing worse than chasing corrosion problems in the future.

I am starting to understand the basics but I had a look at the console and all I can do is bolt the buss bars to the console. So I thought there must be a better way and is there?

    You don't need bussbars.

I fitted mine in the bottom of an electrical junction box being sure that the mounting screws do not touch the boat when the box is mounted. In the lid i mounted my switch gang assembly. Then mounted the whole unit to the side of my tinny. Bring your cables in and out of the bottom side when thew box is mounted and use gland fittings. Throw two or three silica crystal moisture absorbent sachets inside to absorb any condensation that may occur and you will have trouble free switches and electrical connections for a decade at least.
    Jack.
