Dave,
Congrats on your catch - Would have kept you entertained.
Anybody successful with the redclaw?
Cheers,
kercus
A relaxing Sunday morning fish last week at the Somerset Dam, caught a decent haul in just over 2hrs. All fish accounted for in a 100mtr stretch of water from 3mtr - 8mtrs.
Set 8 pots miles away from any boat ramp and caught one bloody Red Claw??!! Lucky the Bass were awake, landed 16 in total and dropped 4

Nice catch there, we were there Sunday morning (30th), 1 yellowbelly, 1 bass and 2 small striped fish I can't recall the name of. These came from casting spinnerbaits in timber as we had no luck jigging with SP's, blades or jigs but we also didn't venture any further from the spit than bay 13. Looks like you did a fair bit better than us, I'm still trying to get Somerset sussed!
I am always in at the Spit, use your sounder and travel slowly. Concentrate on hugging the coastline and use your sounder to find the schools. you will find bass in various holdings opposite the boat ramp, you will notice the bays, ignore them and concentrate on trolling lures 3m - 8m along the points. You will get the fish. Trolling lures is a bit of an art, find your speed, find the depth the fish are holding at and make many passes. The fun will follow
Poltergiest 50mm 3m and 8m hard bodies, alternate your trolling speed and mix it up.
Spinner baits are great for a forward cast during the troll
