Towing Boat/trailer with FF on Board for Short/long distances
Have a Raymarine 8" FF etc out of warranty. A week or so ago spoke to a boatee who for some reason had to ride in his boat while being towed was amazed at the vibration on his FF and decided in future to remove it when towing.
Our Raymarine not easy to remove and have purchased an alarm for when the boat is left unattended in a back yard/caravan park. But am re thinking my towing strategy based on the above comments.

Re: Towing Boat/trailer with FF on Board for Short/long distances
Whenevr I tow long distances (more than about an hour) I remove GPS and sounder and carry them in the car. As much for security as to protect them from being bounced around.
Mine remove easily - HDS5 gps on a RAM mount on the dash takes 1 minute, and have HDS5 sounder in a special folding bracket along with VHF that takes only a minute or two to remove/replace.
Cheers

My Garmin 178 has never been removed and its been towed probably 100 000km over some really rough stuff and never had an issue. Could be the model being extra strong maybe??
