Re: Suzuki 140 - prop advice

with the 3 blade 20 stainless suzuki prop i got almost identical speeds as the 4 blade in the high ranges 4800 to 6200, but under that rpm the 4 blade really performs well, it allows me to stay on the plane at lower revs.on a typical day i leave the ramp and head out to the bay islands [green or mud] i try and cruise out at 4200 to 4800 approx 40 to 46 klm/hr.i stop and start 50 times in 3 1/2 hours per day[this is where the better hole shot helps me] but i travel 45 to 50 klm in that 3 1/2 hours for 28 to 32 litres of premium unleaded [depends on the weather]"pretty good for a heavy 6mt boat" with the 3 blade prop i would use 34 to 38 litres a day.

    Beast,

yes, I went from a long shaft yam to a long shaft zuke.

I was on Smithy's boat with his zuke and mine definately peformed better, but in saying that the gearbox ratios were also different appart from the props. we also had his boat fully loaded with 5 blokes.

My boat is able to plane at between 3300 and 3500rpm and stay on the plane with ease, no on off throttle in the slop and never wants for horsepower on the back of a greenie. Performance out of the hole is excellent as well.

    Regards
    Honda.

Thanks Guys -After reading page on page of data both here and else where all filled with heart ache and success , I have decided to start with a 3 blade SS Solas 13 7/8 x 19 - gotta start some where I suppose ! I was a bit edgey on going bigger or four blade and putting to much hurt on the new motor. It should be all fitted up in the next week or so .I'll let u know how I go - thanks for the help epecially Honda 900 who supplied a heap of data.In the mean time -as of this arvo mechanic has the boat and I'm off to Frazer for a week - leaving it to him to worry about the fit up.
    Regards
    Beast.
