Flatzie,
Nice to see the 'country' so healthy.
Thanks for the post and the pics - fantastic looking spot.
Cheers,
Steve
Hi all
My son had a few days off so we decided to head out west to my home country, and fish with my old Dad for a few yellas. He always has a stock of crays, so off we went all fired up.
The fishing wasnt as full on as a few earlier trips, but when you can nail afew fish like these, whose complaining?
The post flood season fishing sure has improved compared to recent years, nothing like a heap of water to sort the rivers out. Thankfully, "all the rivers run"
I penned this poem at the start of the flood season and had it on the Milky Condamine thread. We are now seeing the bush experiencing the best season in decades.
CONDAMINE COUNTRY
And out where river she oaks sweep and sway
And cattle seek shelter this chilly winters day
The land of creeks rejoices, drinks it in
The Cockies dam is full to brim
The Brigalow country often partched
neath sun and heat for seasons past
now cattle fatten, wheat crops thrive
The Bush returns.. its come alive
Deep down in mud the crayfish stir
Wet Butcher bird now sings a song he must
And down by Condamine's sacred bends
A wood duck swings and swerves at Dusk
Its bounty, life and romance hold
We love this river in our blood
Till dying day like old blokes past
We live to see her banks in flood
Cheers

Flatzie,
Unfortunately no - just don't seem to be able to align the planets properly at present.
Still pretty keen though - so I hope it's not long till Mat and I get out again.
Catch you soon,
Steve

Mate thats fantastic stuff..
On ya, Flatzie. Do you eat the yellas and are they good eating?
Cheers, Pete

Hi Pete
Yes been eating them since I was a kid. I bleed them and you get lovely soft white fillets that taste great! Like all fish the smaller and medium sized fish taste the best. Just need to see the Cod breed up more in the rivers and we will be back to some of the former fishing.
Cheers
Flatzie
Great photos, great poem!
I'm guessing Chinchilla weir?
Well done. Some nice clean looking yellas you's caught there.
Cheers, Doug.
Love to use Preditek or Kingfisher lures or Viva Lures when I am out fishing.
Good one Flatzie, they are very good yollowbelly, nice and lean and clean.
Those fish always seem to be good after a good river run and clean out.
I noticed you mentioned Crays in your post, how about salt water prawns, have you ever used them and what are your thoughts on using same in outback rivers.
I use shrimps when I can get them, very good if they are difficult to get. The fish seem to go
for them when they are scarce.
I share you thoughts about the "old river" especially when it is in good condition.
The cod will return if we follow the rules same as down in some of the border river at this time.
I have found that the first frosts in April/May and later on in August seem to produce best cod.
Enjoy it all while you can.
Have fun Haji-Baba
My wife and I spent a few nights out at Condermine recentlly, fishing off the bank at the lagoon. We caught about half a dozen, some wheighing up to 5lb cleaned. Great weekend considering we had 25mm of rain, and someone stole our opra house traps. Spent a full day inside the camper around our indoor fireplace (gas bbq with the plate removed) Local had to tow us out with the old FJ 4x4/ Heading back there soon
Just have to say the same as all the rest and thanks for the great poem. The Condamine is a special place. Its been a great friend for many a rover.
