I personally can`t complain about the drop shots but you might have had a ding or nick at the snap point. I`ve put mine through heaps of punishment (also punishment with fish)and mine is still going strong.
fling it and go get another.
a week or two ago i bought a berkley dropshot 6-10 kg,7ft
saltwater rod, liked the look of it and the feel and thought it would
suit my 360 slammer,it did.i had some fun with it,pulling up some
1 metre trevors off the jetty before they pinged.then on sunday
were out on the boat, caught a small shark, not much else and moved on.
bottom line i got snagged, tried to slightly whip the rod to free it,snap.
before i could even tighten the drag the rod was snapped clean near the top,
the drag could be pulled with two fingers and the leader was 15 lb mono.
what would cause this?the rod was always kept secure and safe during transport
and had been put to its test properly several times prior to the snap.it was a one piece with a nice thin tip i was quite proud of the rod as my first "half descent rig"this is why i looked after it. i wasnt really overly fond of the glass tips but thats what i have swapped to
now,a mate said it broke because it was a berkley.anyone have any
input on this. needless to say there are numerous reports on berkly's snapping
on the net probably should have done some research. i really liked the rod and kudos to the guy's at the fishing shop
for sorting it out,i just dont understand what happened.
any insight or related story's would be good, cheers.
if not for the bad experience i would buy another one,ran well
when it was going.
no pics unfortunatly.

What sort of angle was it at when you "Whipped" it mate?
A lot of rods will snap if the angles get too great.
That top 6 inches don't like the angles.
It is a crap feeling when you hear that sound....
Cheers and thanks.

I bought the same rod about 3 weeks ago and took it out the following week to try and catch a School Mackerel on it.
When I was running the line through it and rigging it, the end 8" or 9" snapped off.
I took it back to BCF where I bought it, and although they did replace it, they said it was because I was high sticking it. I hadn't even had it in the water??????
Whatever. Might be a common problem with that model hey.
I hope not because it feels like a beaut rod.

Hi Guys
A lot of the newer blanks are prone to snapping due to unseen damage by this I mean that the rod may have been dropped and the rod has hit a surface which causes unseen damage and then when you use the rod the pressure builds up to the point the rod will snap.

yep, especially when you buy a rod that has had a hundred people pick it it up in the shop and bang the tip into something and create a weak point and then put it back on the shelf.
it could also be that the line did a couple of wraps around the tip / guides when it was 'whipped', which could have led to it (tip) breaking. i have broken a berkely drop shot before without even doing anything (i dont think) to it.
thanks for the info fella's. definatly didnt high stick it,whats funny
is i did a bit of research when i got it home and found that they have
snapped a fair bit around the place,i though yeh user error, with the right
drag and knowing what your doing it shouldnt happen.the people commenting on
the forums had similar responses, unfortunatly not the case. dissapointing.
im thinking a problem in transit, doesnt matter got a silstar as a replacement
ile give that a go tonight should still be fun.
cheers guy's
