    Lever drag reel setup

Hey guys, I have just purchased my first lever drag reel. Would I be correct in assuming that if you set the drag at full (i.e. approx 1/3 of the breaking strain of the line) then this will automatically set the drag for strike? If this is incorrect please let me know. Cheers Winston.

Pretty much correct there, just a couple of things to add.

When you set the drag on a TLD series reel for example, you twist the little black knob which sits over the drag lever. You need to put the reel in free spool before you change drag settings by twisting the knob each time.

Also strike drag is where you can push the lever to, and then you can push the little button to push the lever a bit further. Strike drag should be 1/4 to 1/3 of the breaking strain of the line, and this is measured by SLOWLY pulling the line from the reel over the rod with a set of scales or a known weight.

Make sure you re-check the strike drag periodically and back it off the free spool for storage.
