Looks a bit like a hairtail but I think the head shape is wrong.
Caught this eel on the sunshine coast - kawana last night not really sure what kind of eel it is. I have seen them lurking around last time i went for a night fish also there always in pairs. The one i caught was a metalic chrome looking, It looked purple/green/blue when it captured the light. Its tail was damaged and missing and had one set of ugly teeth on it. I dont really think it knew it was hooked as it didnt not fight at all untill it thrashed around something chronic once landed.
Only had my dodgie iphone camera with me so the pictures are shocking.

Hairtail for mine
Yeah, I was looking at it upside down, now I can see the fangs and the over-slung lower jaw! Hairtail. Good eating apparently but never tried it myself.
Yeah, I reckon it's a hairtail. Never caught one myself, apparently they're somewhat rare and a rather incidental catch, so good work!
Cheers,
Kaidon
Conservation NOT preservation!
Used to catch hairtail alot in Botany Bay. Good eating

I was out yesterday off Bribie and caught two of those, They have an almost lizard type head and savage little teeth.
YEP DEFINATLY A HAIRTAIL...SMALL ONE THOUGH.
tHEY GENERALLY GO FOR GANGED PILLIES. USUALLY IT IS DIFFICULT TO KNOW U HAVE ONE ON. BACK IN SYDNEY WE CAUGHT THEM AT NIGHT. THE DANGEROUS THING WAS NOT THE TEETH BUT THE AMOUNT OF GANG HOOKS IN THEIR THROAT FROM OTHER ANGLERS WHEN U GRABED THEM AROUND THE KNECK.
BEST ONE I EVER GOT WAS 1.3 MTRS LONG (TRUE) WON A TROPHY FOR THAT ONE WHEN IN THE LOCAL PUB FISHOS CLUB. NOT BAD EATING EITHER.
a hairtails tail goes to a point, a pike eels tail is a bit broader.
You get a few pike eels around SE Qld to a big size 1.5 mtrs...
big teeth

caught one of these on a live herring once.
looks like a hairtail to me.
