    Barcrusher questions

Hi all was hopeing for some help yet again.

I am thinking of buying half of my friends barcrusher and trying to get an idea of what it would be worth. It is a 2006 model 5.3 with a 90 etec on the back with about 150 hours on the clock. Any ideas? Have had a quick look on the net but can only find 5.6 models and larger.
My second question is that i went for a run in it today and it tennds to lean on its side when underway. Would trim tabs be effective on this size boat or is it to small for them?

    Thanks in advance
    Cheers Ryan.

    Re: Barcrusher questions

How bad does it lean? and you tried simply shifting some weight?

But yeah Trim tabs would help, both leaning and also into a head-sea.

yeah tried shifting some wait by filling the live bait tank and that worked well but the live bait tank is on the skippers side so not sure how it would go when i am alone.

If you are going halves in a boat with someone I would always take the stern half as the value is in the motor!

Don't quote me as not 100% sure but in the back of my mind I think there has been mention of listing on barcrushers before...try a search....

    Re: Barcrusher questions

Yes trim tabs will fix the listing proble. Even if it doesnt list now , it will with a side wind as all boats will lean into the wind. Trim tabs are a great investment to compensate for , wind, weight prop torque. I fitted Volvo's to my boat and fixed it in all conditoions, wind, weight distribution and prop torque (cos I had twin outboards).
What is he asking for the boat and what is a new one worth?

    Cheers

Mate of mine has a Barcrusher 530. Does lean a fair bit in a side wind or when it is unbalanced. Trim tabs would do wonders. Very sensitive to improper weight distribution.

yea i keep an eye open for a barcrusher 530 - trim tabs are almost a must for that deep vee design IMHO and a rough guess $ somewhere between 30K and 38K depending on hours on the ob and what extra gear it has on it and how good nick it is - they certianly hold there value if you can find one

    rcfisher,
I previously owned a 2004 530c Barcrusher with a DF90 Suzuki and for memory was purchased new for around the 39-40k. Sold it 5 years later for 31k. I have seen them generally advertised around the same age for 31-35k. New can be in excess of 50k. Would definetly benefit from trim tabs. Generally a good solid with boat with a very good finish and good handling characteristics, but don't expect it to be the fastest thing on the planet and to ride like a glass boat

Thanks for all the replys guys. He is asking 34k for it so 17k for half which going by the above posts seems reasonable. Any ideas what sort of money to fit a set of tabs and are any brands an advantage over the others?

    Cheers Ryan.

kind of slightly off topic, but think long and hard about going halves in a boat, many a long term friendship has ended in disaster.

    Re: Barcrusher questions

I recently put tabs on my boat. After looking into it I went with the Bennett Hydraulic tabs. There's pros and cons of both types. Electric's don't have a pump but have heard of a few failing for various reasons. The Bennett's have a pump in-board with a few extra lines but have a very good rep for reliability.

I got mine off Ebay for less than $500 delivered from USA. Expect to pay double that in Aus.

Hey Scuttlebutt $500 that sounds like a great price been quoted around $1750 for a set of lectro tabs thats fitted by a yard here in Bris. How do they compare?

    Re: Barcrusher questions

There are many good places to buy Bennetts tabs in the USA. I had a set on the last boat that went 5 years without fault, but have bought a pair of 450mm wide QL tabs from ############# for $980 delivered. David is based in the USA and has specialised in selling to Aussies and offers a reliable service with great communication.

ps, PM me if you want to know who I got them from.
