    Yamaha 350 V8 engines ...

    Hi guys ...

Unfortunately due to work commitments and a change in direction and location, I have to be a self imposed land lubber (and not own my own boat) for the next few years until I return back to Oz.

In the mean time I have been researching engines and fittment for F&H 3.

I have noticed for the last couple of years on the American web sites the Yamaha 300 and 350 HP V8 engines.

I can't seem to find any reference to them here at all on Ausfish and wondered if anyone has anything to do with them .... and then obviously if so, whats your thoughts ? .....

the 300 yammy has been a flop as zuzki 300 was so much lighter .for those yammy fans a new 6 cyc block 300 yamaha is on its way. the 350 will most likely stay the same and become the 350 / 400 hp yamaha

From what your saying then is the 350 OK or crap as well ....

I don't think they are crap, just too damn big for many aussie boats. Very heavy as well, and as with all things V8, thirsty too, and last time I checked (out of interest) the local dealer had them at 45k, so for 50 extra ponies, a hundred extra kilo's you will be out of pocket over 10k more than something from the competition

the 350 sci verado is a nice engine if that is the sort or power range you are looking into but pricey...but all engines in this hp rage are.

Verado are a good engine, no doubt about it .... however just wanting to know of any personal experience with the Yamies as they are V8's hence the query ....

Does sort of narrow the decision making process then Scott with those specs ....

Cruisecraft are running a 300 Yammie on a 685 Explorer, and the feedback I've had is very positive.

As said below, If I was after a 300+ HP motor, it'd be the Verado every time but then I used to own the 250...

LOL, too true! But I think Kevin Nichols would say what he thought, and he certainly liked it when I asked him.

Quite a few about in commercial operation.

Here's a couple I see regularly down this neck of the woods. I work with the mother of one of the skippers so I will ask about how they (the motors) have been performing.

Hey BR .... old mate certainly likes his Yamies in that review ....

Lot of weight (and $) hanging off the back of that transom with 4 of those little puppies ....

4 of them to push 14 tone along ... hmmm, now thats grunt !!

The beauty of the setup of course is that when poking and idling around looking at the kelp and other sea life, you can shut down motors not required

    Cheers
