Thread: camper trailers

    Re: camper trailers

Active Fabrications at Beenleigh for the trailer building stuff Ian.
They supply a lot of the trailer mobs with their gear.
Electric brakes with a hand brake added on would be the go for me.

I'd also have a trailing arm setup and airbags for suspension.
There was a thread a while ago about trailer suspensions. I see if I can find it and bung a link up.

    Ian,

with regard to the brakes. I would definatly put brakes on her, you will be surprised at just how heavy they get when loaded for a trip. For me, I went with Electric brakes for the simple fact that I have more control over them in offroad situations. Going down steep hills in low range I have total control over the brakes.

    Re: camper trailers

    Hi mate,

I got a trakabout camper 2nd hand. Just got back from 4 days camping...(its first serious trip) and I cant fault it. Very happy with every aspect so far. We had an inch of rain in about 20min last thurs night, very water tight.

My only suggestion would be to try and locate a good secondhand one. often all the 'extras' have been done for you....it all adds up when you start getting quotes for new trailers....especially HD ones. I think this one was about 1/3 new cost, and only few yrs old, used 3 times.

    Cheers Steve

    Re: camper trailers

Ian, I built my CT and a good friend (Dirk and Tina from Dirks Camper Trailers) built the tent for the top. The axle/wheels match my Prado. Finga did the wiring....an excelent job too.

I'm also on myswag.....as Wags. I have a few pics there too.

    Cheers,
    Wags

    Now come on now matey...
    I didn't drill the holes. Did I??
Wags' trailer is a beauty Ian. Well worth inspecting to get ideas and so you don't make the same blues as Wags did...

That's one back to me so that brings the score back to a leveller playing field.

I've got a castle camper the Super delux 12
    www.castlecampers.com.au

Absolutely love it! Roomy and easy to setup. The tent is made OS but the trailer is a Nathan trailer made on the sunny coast. Offroad setup brand new will see you with change out of $6500.00 The tent includes annex, all side walls and floor as well.
I put a tarp over mine to save it from bird and bat shit as well as tree sap.

Quality is as good as much more expensive models.
