    The New Monduran

Will attach a few photos of the new Lake Monduran taken in the last week.

Lots of new areas to explore and fish.

The ramp situation will cause a few problems over the next few days, but Rob has slashed some extra spaces behind the old dirt ramp which is now Bitumen.

Photo 1 Caravan Dirt Ramp now Bitumen.
Photo 2 Back ramp and parking.
    Photo 3 Back Bay.
    Photo 4 Concrete Ramp.
Photo 5 Old Housboat/MASA dirt Ramp.

The next series is in South Arm B, which now extends back a long way. New points and bays are forming, even some weedbeds.

The livestock and wildlife are thriving.

    1. Charbray and points South Arm B
    2. Weedbeds starting to form South Arm B bay in small bay on northern side.
    3. Eagle nest near the island at the Junction of the South and North Arms of B.
    4. New point in South Arm B, Bottle point, has small tie off stump.

    Re: The New Monduran

Further up the Kolan, there are the new bays and points, the Two mile is enormous.

But we went further up to Bay F, and once the weedbeds form it will be like a billabong in the Territory.

    1. Bay F
    2. Kolan river at Bay F.
    3. Weedbeds across the river between Bay H and F.

The capacity of the new day has about ten feet to go via the spillway overflowing.

    4. Spillway with water about 8 to 10 feet below overflow.

    Re: The New Monduran

    Roo,

The water quality up around Bay F looked fantastic, around H were the weedbeds were forming across the river it was a little disturbed.

The two mile is such a big place now and going in from the top side, instead of the old entrance is a great point on the left.

Wherever you went, around the dam, there were new points, shallow and deep, new bays and some great lays of timbers, lantana in water everywhere.

The poorer quality water and a bit of blue green algae, that we found were in North arm of B just before the new join with C Bay. But that cleared in about three days.

Subject to new inflows its all pretty good, just lots of the that water.

Lures that got interest were Frogs, Storm Shads, Hollowbellies and Squidgies.
Chucked heaps of hardbodies for no interest. But that didn't stop us trying.

Most interest was early morning, or just after nightfall leading up to the moon.

Lots of soundings in the last few day. Boofing in certain bays and around the boat around the weekend. With one point about 80 metres away with about 10 to 12 free swimming barra on a shallow point. Just couldn't get near them without spooking. All very interesting, and the amount of bait is unreal.

All in all, its a great learning curve, the amount of riverflows (currents) and wind effected water was interesting to watch and observe.

To all who are thinking of going, same amount of fish, just more water between them.

The great point is more water to explore and easier to find a spot to oneself.

    Enjoy

Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !
    Teach him how to fish
& he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!

    Re: The New Monduran

    Chris,

Most bait activity and smaller barra were up around Bay F, reminds one of last of the wet in the Territory.

Certainly the main channel up there now looks like a NT Billabong, just needs a few lilly pads growing around the place.

Lots of smaller barra, and that's expected.

Some very interesting points and also down at the Two Mile.

Just so many places to explore and not enough time. Back gives out to quick and have to call it quits for the day.

Lucky there are heaps of new spots down the bottom end for that dusk fish.

Will need heaps of new reflectors from first shortcut up river, for people travelling back of a night.

    Nathan,

It a new world out there for everyone, new areas to explore, new haunts for the fish. But the size and the serenity of it all was magnificient.

It not always about the fish, but time on water, just enjoying everything.

    Regards

Beaut photos Trev. Everytime I look, the place keeps changing on us. What a wonderful little (mammoth) ecosystem it is.
