Major local fishing comps set to be cancelled

Local angling clubs are dumbfounded by the plans to release the last of Lake Burrendong’s water, as the last time the dam was lowered to such levels algae all but took over the impoundment. Native fish were also adversely affected, and appeared covered in blemishes and starved of food as they lay almost dormant in the muddied waters.
Event planners of the Australian Yellowbelly Championships, and the Lake Burrendong Classic have gone into crisis mode, with big decisions needing to be made over the futures of both events at Lake Burrendong. If the local impoundment’s capacity fails to recover to a respectable level that will see healthy fish activity by March/April, then it is more than likely that the Burrrendong round of the Australian Championships will be moved, and the Lake Burrendong Classic cancelled.
It was hoped that the authorities would see sense in leaving the last of the water in the dam so that the two major angling events planned for the dam could go forward, and native fish stocks would be protected.

Now that you have had some rain will the Lake Burrendong Classic be on

The classic will definetly be on at Burrendong this easter. The rain fell to far north of the catchment, and only lifted the capacity around 1%, but flooding further North ment that scheduled releases have eased some what.
It is hard to say what capacity the dam will be at Easter time, but it is fishing well at present! The Lake Burrendong Classic will be on regardless of capacity or weather!
