Geeze I'm a bit late on this thread... I've never used a Pluton but I do own a Calcutta TE300 Conquest and a suped up Jap version of a CT400 with extra bb's. My mate has a CTE400. In fact the Shimano Calcuttas are the most popular reels for most blokes in the fishing club up in PNG.
The Calcuttas have always been 100% reliable and easy to use. Super smooth, easy to cast and a good sturdy feel about them. We run between 30-50lb braid on them fishing for barra & black bass - caught plenty!
So even though I can't comment on the Pluton I'm sure you would not be disappointed if you ended up with a Calcutta.
I own a Penn 965 International too that's been super reliable & great to use.
I'd have thought something like the 965 might be another good option for the snapper application you described.
