Best place to Launch for a trip to cape Moreton?

Hi all, We live at Jimboomba and head on rare occasions to the cape and beyond chasing a feed. We have tried putting in at Bribie Island and Scarborough harbour in the past (and Scarborough again today) and bashed and crashed through the slop (ok if the fish are on but a drag when they are not). We are in an old cruise craft reffraider 16' 6" cuddy sonot the biggest of boats.

Is it any better to head out through Brissy river & follow the shipping channel or any other suggestions?

    Cheers

No, Scarb's the logical place to put in from your place - unless you fancy driving to Bribie.

I've tried the mouth of the Brissie, Nudgee Beach, Scarby, and Bribie and Scarbrough's the best, and quickest to I think.

Bribie is the quickest if going around the cape, you will always find some slop around through the bay if there is any wind about.

We always leave from Nudgee as its the closest to home and find it takes about the same time as leaving from scarby without the extra 30min drive by car up there. The plus is that you dont have to dodge sand bars to get to the cape and the last part of the journey home in a southerly is protected by fishermans island and mud. The only down side about nudgee is the bar is very shallow at low tide and will see you churning up mud if you drop off the plane which is a common occurance on the weekends as there is usually someone fishing smack bang in the middle of the channel. The brissy river is quite good as long as your trip up/down the shipping channel doesnt have the wind and the tide opposing as it tends to create a fair amount of swell when it is 10-15kn or more. Bribie is deffinetly the quickest way to go by boat (but takes an extra hr by car from nudgee)also if there is a bit of a southerly you tend to cop a bit of chop side on and depending on your boat this may make it a bit of a wet trip. Theres always the option of putting in at manly and going out through the south passage and fishing the reefs on the eastern side of moreton island.
    cheers Marto
